What Happens When I Downgrade?
Your QR codes don't break when you downgrade - here's exactly what happens.
You always keep your most important QR code working. This is the main way we differ from most QR code services.
What Actually Happens
When you downgrade (or cancel entirely):
- Codes within your new plan's limit keep working with full tracking
- You choose which codes stay active by pausing ones you don't need
- Your most important printed material stays functional
Unlike competitors that break everything, you maintain continuity for your most critical QR code.
What Changes
If you have more codes than your new plan allows:
| Situation | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Within new limits | Everything works normally with full tracking |
| Over new limits | Codes show "needs attention" page until you upgrade or free up a slot |
Example: You're on Pro (500 codes) and downgrade to Starter (50 codes). Your 50 oldest active codes keep working with full tracking and editing. Codes 51–500 show a "needs attention" page when scanned. But here's the key: before you downgrade, you can pause codes you don't need—this lets you choose exactly which codes stay fully functional.
How Most Competitors Handle This
When you downgrade or miss a payment with most QR services:
- Your codes immediately stop working
- Users scanning them see errors or "code not found"
- Any printed materials with those codes become useless
That feels like holding your business hostage. We don't think it's right, especially if you've printed business cards or product packaging that can't be cheaply replaced.
Scan Limits
If you go over your monthly scan limit, codes still redirect to their destinations. Users don't see any difference. You'll see upgrade prompts in your dashboard, but nothing breaks.
How to Downgrade
Go to Settings → Billing → Change Plan. Pick your new tier and confirm. The change takes effect at the end of your current billing period—you keep full access to what you paid for until then.
We don't prorate downgrades. You get to use your current plan until it expires, then move to the lower tier.
Cancelling to Free
If you cancel your subscription entirely, you revert to the free tier:
- Your oldest active dynamic code stays fully functional with tracking
- All static codes work forever (they don't need our servers)
- You choose which code stays active by pausing codes you don't need before cancelling
- Additional codes show a "needs attention" page until you upgrade or free up a slot
Your most important QR code stays working—you just need to decide which one that is.
Questions
Will my customers see an error? For codes within your plan's limit: no, everything works normally. For over-limit codes: scanners see a friendly "needs attention" page—not a broken link or error.
Can I upgrade again later? Yes. Upgrade anytime and all your codes immediately become fully functional again.
Which codes stay fully active? Your oldest active codes get priority. To change which one stays active, pause the codes you don't need—this moves your important code into the active slot.
What about my analytics data? Historical data is preserved. You can view past analytics, and your active codes continue tracking normally.
