Understanding Scan Analytics
Learn what data you can track when people scan your QR codes.
Dynamic QR codes include built-in analytics. Every scan passes through our redirect, so we can tell you when, where, and on what device people are scanning. For a deep dive into tracking strategies, see our QR code tracking guide.
Static QR codes go directly to the destination without touching our servers—no analytics possible. Use dynamic codes if you need tracking.
What We Track
Each scan captures:
- Timestamp – Date and time of the scan
- Location – Country and city (based on IP geolocation)
- Device type – Mobile, tablet, or desktop
- Operating system – iOS, Android, Windows, macOS
Key Metrics
Total scans: Every scan, including repeat visits from the same person.
Unique visitors: Estimated distinct people, based on anonymized IP hashing. One person scanning three times counts as one unique visitor.
Scans over time: A time series chart showing daily scan volume.
Dashboard Overview

Your analytics dashboard shows:
- Summary cards with total scans, unique visitors, active codes, and top location
- Time series chart of scans over your selected period
- Device and OS breakdowns
- Geographic distribution by country
- Top performing QR codes
- Time heatmap showing when people scan (hour × day of week)
Time Filters
View data for:
- Last 7 days
- Last 30 days
- Last 90 days
You can also filter by folder, QR code type, or specific QR code.
What You Can Learn
Campaign performance: Which materials drive scans? Which locations perform best? Compare the same code over different time periods.
Audience insights: Where is your audience? What devices do they use? When are they most active (time heatmap)?
Code comparison: Compare multiple QR codes side by side to see what's working.
Privacy
We track aggregate, anonymous data—not individuals.
We don't collect: Names, emails, phone numbers, browsing history, or any personally identifying information.
We do collect: Anonymous device info, approximate location (city-level from IP), and scan timestamps. IP addresses are hashed immediately and not stored in raw form.
Common Questions
Why don't I see any analytics? You're probably using a static QR code. Only dynamic codes have analytics.
Are scans counted multiple times from the same person? Total scans count every scan. Unique visitors estimate distinct people.
How accurate is location data? Country is very accurate. City is approximate—mobile networks sometimes route traffic through different cities.
Can I see who specifically scanned? No. We don't collect personal information.
How long is data kept? For the life of your account.
Do my test scans count? Yes. Test before launching campaigns, or use a separate test QR code to keep data clean.
