What Happens When I Downgrade?
Your QR codes don't break when you downgrade - here's exactly what happens.
Your QR codes never break when you downgrade. This is the main way we differ from most QR code services.
What Actually Happens
When you downgrade (or cancel entirely):
- All your QR codes keep working and redirecting normally
- Users scanning them see no difference
- Your printed materials don't become worthless
The codes don't break. Period.
What Changes
If you have more codes than your new plan allows, you'll hit some limits on what you can manage:
| Situation | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Within new limits | Everything works as normal |
| Over new limits | Codes still work, but you can't edit them |
Example: You're on Pro (500 codes) and downgrade to Starter (50 codes). All 500 codes continue working and redirecting properly. You can manage your 50 oldest codes. Codes 51–500 still work but are locked—you can't change their destinations until you upgrade again or delete some codes to get under the limit.
How Most Competitors Handle This
When you downgrade or miss a payment with most QR services:
- Your codes immediately stop working
- Users scanning them see errors or "code not found"
- Any printed materials with those codes become useless
That feels like holding your business hostage. We don't think it's right, especially if you've printed business cards or product packaging that can't be cheaply replaced.
Scan Limits
If you go over your monthly scan limit, codes still redirect to their destinations. Users don't see any difference. You'll see upgrade prompts in your dashboard, but nothing breaks.
How to Downgrade
Go to Settings → Billing → Change Plan. Pick your new tier and confirm. The change takes effect at the end of your current billing period—you keep full access to what you paid for until then.
We don't prorate downgrades. You get to use your current plan until it expires, then move to the lower tier.
Cancelling to Free
If you cancel your subscription entirely, you revert to the free tier:
- Your first dynamic code stays fully active
- All static codes work forever
- Additional dynamic codes keep working but can't be edited
Nothing breaks for people scanning.
Questions
Will my customers see an error? No. Codes redirect properly. Worst case, if you're over limits and someone scans, they might see a brief redirect page before reaching the destination—but they still get there.
Can I upgrade again later? Yes. Upgrade anytime and regain full editing access to all your codes.
Which codes stay fully active? Your oldest codes get priority. If you need to change which ones are editable, contact support.
What about my analytics data? Historical data is preserved. You can view past analytics, but new tracking is limited to your current plan.
